P3  - The Schlieffen Plan 

1 The belgian army put up strong resistance they delayed the germany attack on france by a month 2,britain declared war on germany on 4 august,3 russia mobilised its army in just 10 days,4 by the time german troops reached the french border the french army was waiting for them ,5 germany had been preparing for war for years 

P4  - The Cavalry 

1 a force of soldiers riding on horseback. 2, the british army alone owned 25,000 horses 3, only 80 motor vehicles the had 4,after august 1914 cavalry charges were reduced on the western front,5 the horses were more reliable then motor vehicles  

P8 and P16/17  - The Trenches 

1 a ledge so soldiers could look over the top of the trench 2, planks laid over mud and floodwater 3,a small hole in the earth where soldiers could sleep 4,the front of the trench made from sandbags of earth 5,the front line was built was in a zigzag shape

P17 -  Poison Gas 

1 poison gas was a new weapon 2, the weapon was to kill or injure the enemy 3, there were several types of gas chlorine and phosgene attacked the lunges and led to drowning 4,poison gas was first used in january 1915 when the germans fired it at the russians 5,th cold weather could also be a problem
